First Responder Alliance

The First Responder Alliance (FRA) serves over 2,000 under-served rescue and recovery workers and their families. FRA is the only program that provides programming and services for any responder and his/her immediate family. FRA works in partnership with the Psychological Services Center of Long Island University at C.W. Post to address urgent and ongoing needs and provide a bridge to external physical and mental health services and help to form connections.

There were almost 40,000 Ground Zero workers including 3,565 firefighters/EMS personnel, 4,000 police officers and over 31,000 construction workers in various trades. Many suffer from physical and mental health issues, including chronic respiratory and gastrointestinal ailments, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, substance abuse and cancer.
